At MV Skintherapy we’re all about creating products that are simple, versatile, and work for everyone. That’s why we’ve made sure that our Native Power Serum is designed to be the only skin drink you’ll need to illuminate and impart a living glow.
Packed with powerful ingredients sourced from native Australian plants, our Native Power Serum is an homage to First Nations botanical wisdom and also contains Hyaluronic Acid, or HA for short.
HA is a naturally occurring glycosaminoglycan found in our body’s own connective tissue. It’s deeply moisturising, helps our skin to stretch and flex and also helps to heal wounds faster without scarring. It’s an ingredient du jour in the skincare industry, where animal-based or fermented microbial HA is the go-to option for most brands. Of course, our Native Power Serum (like all MV products) is vegan - we use sodium hyaluronate, the salt form of HA.
So far, so good, right? The catch is, we only receive the benefit of HA in skin treatments such as Native Power Serum under certain conditions, and those conditions are not well known. There are three common mistakes we see with people using our Native Power Serum; here’s how to avoid them.
1. Do not apply to dry skin.
Hyaluronic acid is known for its moisturising properties but it only works if there’s moisture on your skin in the first place. This means that before you apply our Native Power Serum, it’s essential that your skin is already damp. This doesn’t mean you need to be dripping wet though - a damp face is perfect. This is where the Rose Hydrating Mist thrives as the perfect companion.
2. Forgetting to massage the serum into your skin.
To maximise the benefits of HA, it needs to be sufficiently absorbed into your skin before you seal it with an oil or moisturiser. Massaging our serum into your skin daily is a great opportunity to practise mindfulness and self-care. Take the time to carefully work the hydration deep into your grateful pores.
3. Not sealing with an oil and/or moisturiser.
The strength of HA to absorb water can also be its weakness. If you don’t trap the Hyaluronic Acid particles into the skin with an oil or moisturiser, HA will steal all your hydration through transepidermal water loss (TEWL).
Avoiding these common mistakes will ensure you get the best out of your Native Power Serum. We’re sure it will quickly become one of your favourite products in your bathroom vanity and a key part of your daily skin-care ritual!
What is hyaluronic acid?
Hyaluronic acid is a humectant which basically means it’s a natural super sponge - attracting any and all moisture within its reach and holding up to 1000 times its weight in water! We use it in our Native Power Serum because it’s amazingly effective at helping your skin cells retain moisture, resulting in skin that looks smoother, more nourished and healthier.
Hyaluronic acid might sound like the name for a harsh and artificial chemical but it’s actually naturally occurring in all of our bodies and particularly our skin. As we age, our natural HA levels decrease and so does our skin’s ability to retain water. As the moisture reduces, our faces can also begin to show more visible wrinkles. What makes HA one of the most legitimate preventative skin care ingredients available is its unique ability to actively restore skin to a more hydrated, youthful condition.
Who Should Use It?
The magic of HA, beyond its amazing ability to hold water, is that it’s gentle on the skin and suitable for all skin types and conditions. The benefits of our serum, to plump and boost your skin’s natural vibrance, also make it a great choice for all ages for both the prevention and rejuvenation of dry skin.
What are the benefits of our Native Power Serum?
Our Native Power Serum is carefully formulated to refresh your skin and leave it feeling thoroughly hydrated. Hyaluronic acid is one of the key active ingredients that makes our serum so effective, but what makes it extra special is the Australian native plant extracts and First Nations traditional knowledge we’ve combined it with. Aussie plants are powerful because they have adapted to survive a particularly harsh and dry environment. By utilising their natural properties, our Native Power Serum protects your skin against pollution and other aggressors that you might encounter day-to-day.
Quandong, Kakadu Plum, and Davidson Plum each have unique traits that make them great for your skin - including Vitamin C and antioxidants.
All of the Native plant extracts we use are ethically sourced in collaboration with local Indigenous communities and our serum is made in small batches only to guarantee the highest quality product.
